MOVING TIPS
Make moving day go easy for your family and movers. The following moving tips are suprisingly effective.
- Give away or sell unwanted goods.
- Transport flammables in your car or get rid of them.
- Empty lawnmower and gas powered fuel tanks.
- Donate unwanted clothes.
- Change your address with the post office.
- Check your new house to be sure appliances fit and have the correct outlets.
- Arrange to forward mail.
- Set date for disconnection and connection of utilities and cable.
- Have carpets cleaned.
- Keep valuables and passports and personal documents with you if possible.
- Be sure your new home will be ready or arrange short term storage with Allstar.
MOVING TIPS FOR THE KITCHEN
- Pack dishes in DISHPACK boxes. They are thicker cardboard and will hold up better in a load.
- If you are not confident packing glassware then ask Allstar about packing your breakables.
- Unplug appliances and secure the cords for easier and quicker transport.
- Disconnect water to refrigerators and disconnect washer/dryer; there is usually an additional charge for this.
MOVING TIPS FOR THE GARAGE AND OUTSIDE
- Put yard tools and handled tools in a garbage can or a wardrobe box.
- Mark your totes well so that there will be no confusion when putting things away.
- Remove loose parts from shop tools and secure cords for transport.
- Empty drawers unless the chest has wheels or is hand-carried.
- Safely dispose of paints or flammables. Remove propane tanks from BBQ's.
- Keep paint at the old home that matches existing walls; the new owners will appreciate that.
- Stop watering plants at least on week before move.
- Disassemble outdoor swings and furniture to save time on moving day or your movers will be happy to do it.
MOVING TIPS FOR BEDROOMS
- Disassemble bed frames and mirrors from dressers if you want to save money. This service is included on long distance moves but is hourly on local moves.
- Disassemble TV and stereo systems and mark the wires for easier reconnect. We do not hook up stereo systems.
- Leave clothing in dresser drawers but remove valuable and breakables.
- Mark boxes according to room so the movers will know where to place them in new home.
- Check new home for placement of furniture to save time on delivery.
- If moving onto new hardwood floors, have felt pads ready to place on furniture feet.
- Decide which clothes to box and which to keep hanging.
- Ask Allstar to provide wardrobes for your hanging clothes. Each wardrobe holds about 2ft of hanging clothes.
