About the Weather

Sure, there are a lot of days with clouds throughout the year, but when the sun does shine these are typically beautiful days, and it doesn't matter which season of the year it is. It's usually not very windy, and when it rains, it usually doesn't rain too hard at one time. Of course, there are a handful of downpours at different times of the year, but it's not as rainy as one might perceive from common belief about Seattle in other parts of the country. In Seattle, generally there's a few days in each season where the sun will shine day after day, and we see the most typically from late July and into September. This is the season that a lot of local residents look forward to each year.

With the proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the winters are considered mild, and it doesn't snow that often in Seattle or the rest of the Puget Sound region. When it does snow, usually it's not that bad.

A Look at Schools

There are a number of community colleges, technical schools, and other miscellaneous schools related to job training, as well as a major four year univerisity -- the University of Washington -- located in Seattle and surrounding cities. Public schools vary, of course, depending on which neighborhood you're in. Many of the newer schools and high schools have been built in the suburbs of Seattle and neighboring towns. When choosing a school things to look at are the location, as well as the extra-curricular activities that are offered, and also level of safety. Is there gang activity in this school? What about drug activity? Obviously, the suburbs are typically going to offer a safer environment, and if you're moving to Seattle, and you have children who will be attending school at the middle school, junior high, or high school level, it might be worth the extra 20 minutes in traffic, just to live in a suburb rather than the city, because of the choice of schools.

Seattle Recreation

There's is an activity for every type of outdoor enthusiast in Seattle. From canoeying and kayaking areas lakes, rivers, and the Puget Sound, to skydiving, skiing and snowboarding, wakeboarding, mountain biking, running and skateboarding, Seattle offers an assortment of opportunities. People moving to Seattle -- who haven't had many opportunities for sports in the past -- have the chance to "re-invent" themselves, and take up new hobbies and sports. In addition, the North Cascades are only a two hour drive away (or less, depending on where you're going). Along Highway 20 you'll find incredible hiking, camping, and many outdoor adventures, and more and more people are likely discovering this nowadays.
